- Nickel sulphide inclusions - a smaller share of failures, and the one cause with nothing to do with installation or everyday use. A microscopic impurity trapped in the glass during manufacturing can sit dormant for months or years before it triggers a spontaneous crack with no impact involved at all. - Extreme or repeated impact - a pan dropped at the wrong angle, a bottle knocked off a nearby shelf, cookware caught awkwardly against the panel mid cooking. Toughened glass shrugs off normal kitchen use, but it isn't built to shrug off a direct, sharp impact indefinitely.
What to Do Immediately If Your Glass Splashback Has Cracked
Keep it simple until the replacement arrives.
- Turn off the hob or any nearby heat source and let the area cool completely
- Clear the area, moving pans, bottles and anything else away from the panel

- Cover the panel loosely with a towel or sheet if it has already partially shattered, to catch any loose granules
